The Lollypop sharpener stands out with its distinctive design, featuring eight holes of varying diameters and cross-sections to accommodate different pencil sizes. The sharpener's structure comprises three main components: top and bottom wooden covers and a round steel knife. Each hole is equipped with a knife at a different sharpening angle, allowing users to achieve their desired pencil pointedness.
Hakan Gürsu's inspiration for the Lollypop sharpener stemmed from the simple lollypop candy. The pencil, when inserted, represents the stick, while the circular, colorful sharpener embodies the candy. This playful yet practical design is a testament to Gürsu's ability to transform everyday objects into innovative designs.
The Lollypop sharpener is not only aesthetically pleasing but also eco-friendly. The top and bottom covers are crafted from wood, and the knife is made from stainless steel using the press method. With a diameter of 100mm and a height of 25mm, the lightweight sharpener is portable and convenient for users.
The design process for the Lollypop sharpener, which took place in Ankara in February 2015, involved extensive research. The Designnobis team observed the wide variety of pencil sizes and shapes in the market and recognized the need for a versatile sharpener. The most challenging aspect of the project was obtaining accurate pencil size information.
The Lollypop sharpener's award-winning design is a testament to Hakan Gürsu and the Designnobis team's creative prowess. The Golden A' Design Award is bestowed upon exceptional, trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's ingenuity and expertise. These revered products and brilliant ideas advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
